Governance is an indispensable component required for any decentralized environment; it is the foundation upon which an equitable ownership structure is built, the cornerstone for breeding powerful communities, and the engine driving distributed collaboration.
Being the foundation upon which decentralized systems coordinate their users, governance is a module natively baked into the network at the protocol level. Membership to the governance of the Atleta chain requires involvement in staking at least 10 $ATLA tokens.
If users hold $ATLA in their wallets but do not wish to stake, participating in governance is possible. However, it is limited in scope (not allowed to submit proposals without stake) and will require per-issue locks. (More on Governance Without Staking here).
The ultimate objective of the Governance module within ATLETA is to coordinate members and enable them to steer the direction of the project. By being involved in governance processes, users are able to exert influence over the treasury and contribute to the growth and direction of the plaform's development.
For the first implementation of Atleta's governance, a hybrid, collaborative approach is taken where the stakeholders engage in the full spectrum of proposing and voting, and the outcomes are implemented/executed by the .
ATLETA leans into its mission of censorship resistance by implementing the entire governance module on-chain. All proposals, votes, and discussions are processed and recorded by the network. Making sure to align all of the actors by utilizing transparent provenance trails for maximal accountability.
Theoretically, the governing committee can propose changes across every/any touchpoint of the network; however, for the V1 implementation certain defenses have been put in place to protect the network against malicious takeover by competitors.
